Singapore Food & Nightlife

Singaporeans absolutely love their food! As the old maxim goes, “Eating is to Singapore as baseball is to the States” – it’s a national pastime.

So don’t forget to pack those loose sweatpants of yours, because you’re in for a culinary adventure of a lifetime. The cuisine here is as diverse as the population itself, with Chinese, Indian, Malay and Western influences.

Best Singapore Western, Hawker & Street Food & Nightlife

If you love seafood, then you’re in the right place as many of the dishes in Singapore consist of fish, prawns and crabs. And thanks to the significant Buddhist population, there are numerous delectable vegetarian options that could make even the staunchest of carnivores change their appetite.

There are exquisite Nightlife and restaurants all over Singapore that offer the ultimate in fine dining. However, if you really want to experience the local cuisine, you have to visit one of the hawker centres. These food courts offer numerous authentic dishes, influenced by multiple cultures and at a very pocket-friendly price. Here, you really get to see how much food is ingrained in the country’s culture. If this sounds like something you might be into, then make a point of visiting Lau Pa Sat and Newton Food Centre.

There are literally hundreds of dishes in the local cuisine but there are number that you just have to sample. First, there is Laksa, made using rice vermicelli served with curry gravy, chili, coconut milk and dried prawns. This meal is the perfect definition of a foodgasm! You should also order some Hokkien Prawn Mee and Hainanese Chicken Rice and be prepared to have your taste buds mesmerized. Singaporean cuisine is a reflection of the multicultural population that calls this island home. Savour some or all of the dishes to really understand what made this country the food utopia of Asia.

And also, make sure to head over to Chinatown and Little India for some truly unique dishes with a Singaporean twist!
