The majority of the 200,000 Burmese in Singapore live and work around the building, hence its nickname. Many of them spend time in the plaza because this is where many of them can obtain essentials from home thanks to the Burmese specialty shops, or just spend time here dining on Burmese cuisine.

The building, which was built in 1980, features an incredible interior space furnished with delicate scripts with little Burmese touches all over; such as the presence of the Burmese library and the traditional longyi.

The plaza’s food court in the basement is filled with kiosks and eateries that sell authentic Burmese food; such as a range of curries, soup, noodles, stir-fry, and much more.

Many of the building’s tenants have businesses in travel and visa services specialising in Burma travel deals, souvenir shops, and money changers, while shops can be found in the podium. During the weekend, the plaza comes alive with a flurry of activity from the local Burmese community.

The Peninsula Plaza is located at 111 North Bridge Road in Singapore. Opening hours are from 8am to 10pm daily.
