The stadium served as a mass screening site during the Japanese occupation, and it was also used to teach Japanese. Other famous events taking place here include the Singapore Youth Festival of 1955 and the inaugural Singapore Armed Forces Day in 1969. It was shut down for renovations in 1999 and opened in 2003 with an improved seating capacity. The Youth Olympic Games in 2010 and the Asian Youth Games in 2009 were also held here.
Also known as the birthplace of football in Singapore, numerous thrilling games have been hosted here. Rugby and hockey matches have also been played here.
Group swimming lessons are taught in the swimming pool complex, with classes available for all skill levels. Kids and adults can choose from different packages at an affordable monthly rate.
Travellers visiting Singapore can also use the swimming facilities for a small fee, while the tracks surrounding the football field can be used for jogging.
