The park marks a number of prominent individuals that left a mark in Singapore’s history including the Cenotaph, a war memorial built in 1922 honouring those lost in WW1 and WWII; an Indian National Army Marker, constructed to commemorate the “Unknown Warrior” of the Indian National Army; and the Tam King Seng Fountain, built in 1882 to commemorate the contributions to Singapore of the famous Chinese philanthropist.

The Cenotaph, Tan Kim Seng Fountain and Lim Bo Seng Memorial were gazetted as national monuments at the end of 2010 indicating their importance to remembering the history of Singapore.

Take a walk around Esplanade Park, during the day and stay for the lights at night. The lights make the park look magical and there are a number of restaurants located nearby. Esplanade park is connected to the Singapore CBD by Anderson Bridge and Cavenagh Bridge making it only a short stroll to many of Singapore’s other attractions.

To get to the park, catch the MRT and get off at City Hall or Esplanade Station.
